Summer Holidays - Germany August 2008
Part 3 - Copenhagen

At the end of the first week we rang Noreen and Steen in Copenhagen and we arranged to travel up to see them for the week-end. It was a 3 hour drive via the island of Fehman, in Germany - which is connected by a bridge and then a short ferry hop (45 minutes) in the middle of it. They are about 20 minutes north of Copenhagen in the area called Holte.

We had a lovely day with them on Saturday. Noreen demonstrated how Danish she had become and had a real Danish style lunch ready on the table when we arrived. This consisted of lots of bread and pastries and salads and cost cuts - including smoked eel - which Mags tried (and liked) to our amazement! It was great to chat and catch up and just laze around.

They have a lovely house. It was a beautiful sunny day and we sat around in the garden. Later on that evening Steen cooked an excellent barbeque for dinner. They were heading out to Steen's mother the next day - so we stayed in the local Skania hotel.

The next morning the weather had changed for the worse. It had rained overnight and more was threatened. We had a good breakfast and packed up and headed into the city. The weather was dull and cold. The city was pretty quiet, as most shops close on Sunday. We went wandered around and found the new Harbour (new since the 17th century!) We went for a harbour tour and although we had forgotten our coats we saw quite a bit of the city from the boat. We finished off with some lunch and some more wandering around the city centre. We left Copenhagen at 4 pm and were back in Dahme by 7.30 where Ingrid and Eckhardt had dinner waiting!
