Summer Holidays - Germany August 2008
Part 1 - Dahme

We had a very enjoyable 2 weeks with Ingrid and Eckhardt in Dahme on the Baltic coast. The weather was just as expected – warm but showery. There was lots to do and plenty of relaxation. We were staying in two separate apartments, side by side on a farm just 2 kilometres from the sea. The beach in Dahme is flat and the sea is lovely to swim in.

They have very unusual baskets to sit in called “Strand Korbe” which you hire by the day or the week. So even when it is cooler, you can sit and relax and read by the sea.

Back on the farm there were horses, goats, pigs and rabbits to feed. Senan had riding lessons and as you can see he was pleased as punch! Mags and Katy also had a go – I declined.

There were bikes and table football! Myself and Senan explored the nearby woods - both walking and on the bikes. We read a lot and generally chilled out. We also escaped Ireland's wettest first fortnight in August since records began - so that was also a bonus.

The German Baltic coast is a lovely part of the world and while it was not a sun holiday - I guess the weather was good enough. There was lots to see and do and plenty of time to sit, talk, read and relax.
